Any tips you can get on how to apply your evening makeup should be welcomed with open arms. If you want to look sexy and striking then there are a few simple things you can do. The aim of this article is to give you some advice and tips on how best to apply your night time makeup

When giving you advice we will split everything into sections so that you can take each bit at a time and then perfect it.

1. Flawless Skin

A vital part of evening makeup is to have completely flawless skin and so you need to begin with a foundation that matches your natural skin tone.

Use a sponge to apply the foundation evenly over your skin and then use your fingers to carefully blend the foundation in around the jaw line and hair line. You should then use a concealer to cover up any dark circles or blemishes you have in your skin. It is best to apply the concealer and then gently tap it with your finger until it blends in. If you rub it there is a good chance you will rub it away.

Finally finish your face with some loose translucent powder. Dip a large brush into the powder and shake off any excess. Gently apply your powder over your face in order to fix your foundation.

2. Cheeks

You can use a cream blusher in the evenings as it will be slightly stronger than the blusher you use in the evenings. Apply a small amount on the apple of your cheeks and then use a sponge to blend it back and up. Afterward just use your fingers a little to blend in the edges.

3. Eyes

When doing your eyes you should start with the eyeliner. Use black or charcoal eyeliner according to your colouring. You should go bold with this as it is a great thing to play up your eyes in the evening. This should be applied along the upper lid and on the lower lid from the outer corner to the middle of the eye. Use a cotton bud to blend the eyeliner. This will help to reduce the harshness of the liner and make it look a little bit smoky.

Now you should move on to the eye shadow. You should start with a light neutral coloured eye shadow and apply it over the whole eyelid, right up to the eyebrow. Now use a light sliver or gray eye shadow and apply this on the crease of the eye and the inner corner of the eyelid. Finally use a dark gray or black eye shadow on the outer part of the eyelid. Again you should use your fingers to blend the darker eye shadow in.

Finally move on to the mascara. You should always use a black mascara for the evening. If you are comfortqabel wearing them you should consider false eyelashes as well. Apply several light coats to both the upper and lower lashes and build the mascara up gradually.

4. Lips

The final thing to do is to apply a lipstick. As you have gone bold with your eyes you should keep your lips more subtle so that you don’t overdo things. A neutral lip gloss will work perfectly with this look and keep you looking really sexy.

It’s been a few days now that I sit and look at this picture, wondering what to do with.

It’s a photo from the Christian Dior fashion show, backstage makeup, and it would be about fall-winter 2008/2009 trends in makeup (or at least catwalk concerned trends). The work has been done by Path McGrath with Makeup Forever Silver Glitter over a black shadow and it’s supposedly inspired by Josephine Baker.

Maybe I’m not an avant-garde-ist when make-up involved. But at least, aesthetically, I can speak up and say there’s no way this is going on the streets!

Even for the catwalk is so theatrical that it’s sure to leave an impression. Like it did for me – I saw the picture and was inexplicably drawn to it.

Makeup Shelf Live – Should I Toss It?

Do you know what’s in your makeup bag? You might be saying I have lots of makeup and I’ve hardly used them. Or, I’ve had my makeup for almost three years and since I just barely used it, I guess it’s OK. For many of you who have all that makeup and wondering how long I should keep it, these general guidelines will help you to decide what you can keep and what you should toss.

Products today are safer than ever but they do have a shelf life. Frequent use of an item increases the risk for bacteria to accumulate. Regular replacement of your makeup products will ensure that what you use is clean and free from contaminants.

Liquid Eye Liner and Mascara
Up to three months! When coming to your liquid eyeliner or mascara, you should know that every time you take the wand or brush out of the tube and use it, there’s the potential for contaminants. Your eye is a moist area and a haven for bacteria, which is why sharing your liquid eyeliner or mascara, is not a good idea. Any eye infections that occur as a result of using either of these products must be thrown out immediately. You can then start over again with new ones when the infection clears up.

Eye Shadows
Up to 12 months if it’s cream eye shadow, and up to 15 months if it’s powder eye shadow. Your eyes are the window of your soul, so don’t take chances here. Keep them healthy and free from infection. Get rid of the old eye shadows that have been accumulating in your makeup bag, and embrace the new with updated fresh colors for your eyes.

Powders
Up to three years! Powders do not contain water so bacteria cannot grow where water does not exist. You certainly won’t get any bad smell here so go ahead and enjoy using that powder you had since last year.

Eye and Lip Pencils
Up to three years if stored properly! Any bacteria on your pencils are removed whenever you sharpen it. If your pencil has been in your makeup bag since last year, don’t just pull it out and use it. Sharpen up, and you’ll be getting rid of what’s been sitting there.

Lipstick and Lip Gloss
These can last about two years unless of course, you use them up first. However, any unpleasant odor is a sure that it’s time to toss.

Liquid Foundation
Oil free foundation can last up to one year. Oil base foundation last somewhat longer and can go up to 18 months. If you’re prone to breakouts, then consider replacing every six months. My liquid foundation does not last me that long because I use it every day, so I’m on to a new tube by that time. Some liquid foundations are now offered in a pump, and this will last up to 8 months.
